March Line of Duty Death ReportIn March of 2023, 7 officers were designated line-of-duty deaths. Their names will be added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Spring of 2024 where they will be honored forever. May their selflessness, bravery, and sacrifice never be forgotten. February Officer of the MonthSenior Corporal Sergio Perez of the Dallas (TX) Police Department was honored as Officer of the Month following his lifesaving efforts earlier this year. He delivered CPR to an unresponsive child and monitored vital signs until medical personnel arrived. His service exemplifies the thousands of unnoticed good deeds done by law enforcement professionals every day. We are incredibly grateful for Senior Corporal Perez’ heroic response. Police are More Likely to Die by SuicideRecently, I received a text message from an officer in a rural jurisdiction who was seeking professional advice regarding a co-worker, her supervisor, who had made a series of statements that caused her lingering concern. She acknowledged that the supervisor had initially made some shocking statements to gauge her reaction, but when she remained a supportive and compassionate listener, he eventually confessed that he was going to take his own life. The more information she offered me, the clearer it became to both of us that the situation required immediate intervention.
